EBRD, Kara-Balta Water and Wastewater Rehabilitation Sub-Project: Corporate Development and Stakeholder Participation Programme
The EBRD is investing €2 mln loan and EUR 3 mln grant funds from the EBRD Shareholder Special Fund to help improve the supply of water to about 40,000 people living in the city of Kara-Balta, which is one of the largest industrial and transport hubs in the northern part of the Kyrgyz Republic. Project focuses on the improvement of the water supply and treatment facilities, rehabilitation of the network to reduce losses, institutional support, improvement of billing and collection efficiency, and improvement of financial and operational management.
The objectives of the project are the following: (i) improvement in supply and treatment facilities; (ii) rehabilitation of the network to reduce losses; (iii) institutional support including water meters for consumers, meters at supply stations, a meter test bench and district meter areas including meters to allow step testing for loss reduction activities; (iv) improvement of billing and collection efficiency, and (v) improvement of financial and operational management.
